Chemistry is a FIFA gameplay feature that determines how good your players are. The higher the chemistry, the better they’ll perform and the stronger your team will be.
When your team’s chemistry is high, players will be able to perform stunning passes and score amazing goals.
How does Chemistry work in FIFA 23?
FIFA 23 has completely revamped the Chemistry system and you can have more variety than ever in choosing your team.
Each player has three diamonds on their card which represent their Chemistry level. There are three Chemistry levels in FIFA 23. One diamond stands for 1 point in Chemistry, 2 diamonds for 2 Chemistry points, and 3 diamonds indicate that player has 3 Points in Chemistry.
You also have a Chemistry Panel on the left-hand side of the screen. That panel previews the impact of adding, removing, or swapping players on your overall Chemistry.
How do I increase Chemistry in FIFA 23?
To unlock the first point of Chemistry in FIFA 23, you need to have at least two players from the same Club or Nationality/Region.
To increase Chemistry by up to 3 Chemistry Points, select 7 players of the same Club or add 8 players of the same nationality, region, and League.
As EA explains, the cumulative Chemistry thresholds are as follows:

Chemistry Styles lets you increase your players’ Attributes. The higher the Individual Chemistry of that player, the higher their Attribute increase.
When a Player is at 1 Chemistry, they’ll get a small boost to their Attributes.
When they’re at 3 Chemistry, they’ll receive a full boost to their Attributes.

FIFA 23 has removed positional links, Overall Squad Chemistry, the Loyalty system, and the negative impact of low Chemistry on Attributes.
Player position and Chemistry
Increasing the Chemistry of each individual player should be one of your main focuses for FIFA 23. To do that, make sure your players are playing in their Preferred Position.
Players have preferred and alternate positions in FIFA 23. They can link across the entire pitch irrespective of their position.
The secondary position is based on where players play in the real world. Players can have up to three secondary positions.
If a player is out of position, they’ll have zero Chemistry. At zero Chemistry, they’ll have no negative Attributes and will play at least as good as their base stats.
To further increase Chemistry, add a Manager that comes from the same Country/Region or League as the majority of the players.
By removing Overall Squad Chemistry, FIFA 23 lets you focus entirely on building individual Chemistry for each player.
Icons, Heroes, and Chemistry in FIFA 23
Icons and Heroes will always be in full Chemistry as long as they’re in the right position. When they’re out of position, they’ll be at zero Chemistry.
Icons count as two players towards their Nation. Heroes will count as two players towards their League.
How do substitutions and tactics affect Chemistry in FIFA 23?
Once a FUT match has started, Chemistry is locked. This means that any changes made in regard to team management, tactics, or player positions won’t affect Chemistry.
As EA explains:
Players who are substituted into a match will play with no Attribute increase from the Chemistry system. Keep in mind that in FUT 23, negative Attributes have been removed, so even at 0 Chemistry, players will perform at their base Attributes.

How does Chemistry work in FIFA 22 and older game versions?

There are three types of Chemistry in FIFA:
- Individual Chemistry: This feature indicates chemistry at an individual level and it rated out of 10
- Team Chemistry: This feature reflects the chemistry of the entire team and is rated out of 100
- Overall Chemistry: This is a combination of Individual and Team Chemistry that can increase or decrease player attribute
Overall Chemistry lets you increase player attributes when it’s more than 50 out of 100. The higher the Overall Chemistry, the greater the player attribute increase.
Player attributes will decrease when Overall Chemistry falls below 50.
How is chemistry calculated in FIFA?
According to EA, Player Chemistry accounts for 75%, and Team Chemistry accounts for 25% of a player’s attribute increases.
Use this formula to calculate the Overall Chemistry in FIFA:
- (Team Chemistry*.25) + ((Player Chemistry*10)*.75)
To calculate a player’s Overall Chemistry, you need to multiply their Individual Chemistry by 10, and then by 0.75. Then multiply the Team Chemistry by 0.25, and
add the two results.
The game automatically calculates Chemistry at the start of the match. The Chemistry ratings are not affected by changes that take place after the start of the match.
Do you need 100 Chemistry in FIFA?
You don’t really need 100 Chemistry in FIFA. Individual player Chemistry is more important than Team Chemistry when it comes to increasing player attributes.
Focus on getting players with the maximum 10 Player Chemistry rather than increasing Team Chemistry to 100.
How can I increase team chemistry in FIFA?
The best way to improve your team’s chemistry is to put players in their preferred positions. Pair your players with a manager of the same nationality. Additionally, make sure to team your players up with fellow players from the same Club or League.
Club loyalty can also increase chemistry. Players that have been loyal to their club will get the Chemistry boost faster. After 10 matches for the same Club, players will get a loyalty bonus which will boost Player Chemistry by 1.
Check your players’ cards and make sure they’re in the green. This indicates they’re in the right position.
Check player links and ensure they’re in the green. This indicates they have lots of things in common. For example, they play at the same club, share the same nationality, and have a similar play style.

Does making subs affect Chemistry in FIFA?
Substitutes don’t affect Chemistry in FIFA. Subs enter the match with a 5 out of 10 Chemistry rating when brought off the bench.
As EA explains, substitutes benefit from being in a team with high Chemistry. However, they won’t receive the effects of Individual Player Chemistry.
Do custom tactics affect Chemistry in FIFA?
Custom tactics don’t affect FIFA Chemistry. Once the match has started, Chemistry is locked. You can move players around as you like.
