FIFA 23 introduces a new gameplay mechanic called AcceleRATE which affects how each player deploys their speed. There are three AcceleRATE archetypes or categories available in the game: Controller, Explosive and Lengthy.
Each archetype dictates how players move across the pitch and how quickly they can reach full speed.
What is acceleration in FIFA?
Acceleration is a gameplay mechanic in FIFA games that indicate how long it takes for a player to reach full speed. The higher their acceleration rate, the shorter the time they need to reach maximum speed.
Main differences between AcceleRATE archetypes in FIFA 23
The Controller AcceleRATE archetype
FIFA players that fall in the Controller AcceleRATE archetype will accelerate uniformly in a controlled manner. They’ll move in a streamlined manner.
As a matter of fact, most FIFA 23 players will fall into this category.
The Explosive AcceleRATE archetype
Players that fall into the Explosive AcceleRATE archetype are more agile and can quickly cover short distances. This allows them to get ahead of their opponents.
Being able to reach top speed faster comes with a cost. After the initial burst of speed, the acceleration rate will slow down.
In other words, explosive players can quickly accelerate but are unable to maintain the same speed for a long period.
Short players tend to fall into the Explosive AcceleRATE category more often than tall players.
The Lengthy AcceleRATE archetype
FIFA players that fall into the Lengthy AcceleRATE archetype need more time to reach full speed but can maintain a stable acceleration rate for longer. This means they can catch up to anyone and even surpass them, provided they have enough distance.
These players tend to be taller and stronger.
What’s the best AcceleRATE archetype to use in FIFA 23?
Explosive players will do better on short distances and one on one situations. Lengthy players will do better over long distances. They can successfully break away from opponents.
How is acceleration calculated in FIFA?
The AcceleRATE archetypes are calculated and assigned automatically based on the player’s height, agility, and strength.
Shorter players typically tend to fall into the Explosive AcceleRATE archetype, while taller and stronger players fall into the Lengthy AcceleRATE category.
Explosive players have the following traits:
- Agility >= 65
- (Agility – Strength) >= 15
- Acceleration >= 70
- Height <= 180 cm (~ 5’11”)
Lengthy players have the following traits:
- Strength >= 65
- (Strength – Agility) >= 15
- Acceleration >= 50
- Height >= 174 cm (~ 5’9”)
Players that don’t meet the requirements above fall into the Controller AcceleRATE category.
What’s the difference between acceleration and sprint speed?
Acceleration is a gameplay mechanic that affects how fast a player can transition from 0 (zero) to top-end speed. It indicates what distance a player needs to cover to reach their top running speed.
Sprint speed is calculated by dividing the distance covered by your time. In other words, this metric indicates how much time a player needs to cover a given distance. Think of it as the distance traveled per unit of time.
Acceleration and Sprint Speed determine how fast a player is overall.
Is acceleration more important than speed in FIFA?
Acceleration is more important than speed for defenders and center mids. Finding the right balance between acceleration and speed is crucial for attackers.
When it comes to covering short distances, acceleration is better than speed.
Off-the-ball movements will be much quicker with high acceleration. This can really make a difference for defenders.
You want strikers to be able to accelerate fast. You want central backs to have a high sprint speed.
Enjoy the game!
