If you no longer wish to play EA games on Steam or you lost your EA account, you can unlink it from the platform. This guide will explain what this action entails and provide step-by-step instructions to follow.
What happens if I unlink my EA account from Steam?
If you unlink your EA account from Steam, you will no longer be able to play the EA games that you have purchased through Steam.
Once you unlink your EA account from Steam, you cannot re-link it again.
As EA explains:
You can unlink your Steam account from your EA Account if you want to link it to a different EA Account, as long as that EA Account has never had the same account type linked to it before in its lifetime.
That means if you unlink a Steam account from your EA Account, you can’t link a different Steam account to it in the future.
And that’s not the only limitation.
Your in-game progress won’t transfer over when you unlink your accounts.
You’ll lose all your game progress and achievements that you unlocked through Steam. These details will no longer be visible on your Steam profile.
You’ll permanently lose access to DLCs, expansions, memberships, subscriptions, and in-game purchases.
The good news is that you’ll still be able to access your EA games through the EA App.
How do I unlink my EA account from Steam?
- Go to the EA Account portal
- Sign in to your account
- Click on Connections
- Locate the account you want to unlink
- Click the Unlink button
Read the disclaimer again and confirm you’re aware of all the risks associated with unlocking your account. Check the box next to “I understand” to continue, and click on the Unlink button to confirm your choice.
And there’s another important detail to keep in mind.
Once you unlink your Steam account from your EA Account and link it to a new one, you cannot unlink it again for six months.
What to do if you can’t unlink your EA account from Steam
If you can’t unlink your EA account from Steam, either due to technical issues or because your account has been suspended, you need to contact EA Support.
Keep in mind that EA’s advisors will first need to verify the account ownership.
Your request involves dealing with sensitive account information and they need to make sure you’re the real owner of the account.
If you lost your EA account years ago and don’t remember anything about it, EA’s advisors will probably deny your request.
If you can’t prove ownership, they can’t do anything.
