There is one question that’s been bothering Fortnite gamers ever since the game was launched: Is there a way to change the gender of my Fortnite character?

Can I change my character’s gender in Fortnite?
If you play with the default Fortnite characters, there is no way you can control or change the gender of your character. There is a 50% chance that you get a male or female character when you launch the game.
Fortnite characters are randomized, meaning that you cannot choose your character’s gender. There is no in-game option to change your character’s gender either.
And now, the good news. There’s a handy workaround that you can use to get the character gender that you want.
The quickest solution to get a character of a specific gender in Fornite is to keep launching a new game until you’ve got the character gender you want. Alternatively, you can select a gender-specific skin and force the game to give you a character that matches that skin.
There are 6 random skins that you can get if you don’t have your own skin. Another solution to diversify your options is to buy skins.
How can I choose the gender of my Fortnite character?
If you buy a gender-specific skin, you’ll get a character to match the respective skin. That’s the only way you can convince Fortnite to give you a character of a specific gender.
In other words, if you select a male avatar skin such as The Growler or the Sub Commander, you’ll get a male character. If you select a skin designed for female characters, you’ll get a female character.
How to check the skins in your locker
Follow the steps below to check what skins you have in your Fortnite Locker:
- Go to the Home screen
- Select your Locker
- Fortnite will list all the skins and pieces of equipment that you own
- Select the Skins menu
- Select the skin that you want to use and confirm your choice
Select a male skin if you want to play as a male character. Pick a female skin if you want to play as a female character.
By the way, select a black skin if you like to play hide-and-seek with your enemies.
If you’re having trouble changing your skin in Fortnite, disable shuffling presets and update the game to the latest version.
How to get additional Fortnite skins
There are three ways to get additional game content and new Fortnite skins:
- Spend V-Bucks in the shop
- Get a Battle Pass to unlock new rewards
- Take advantage of Fortnite promotion packages such as the Twitch Prime Pack
