Can’t Capture Doom Eternal: Here’s Why That Happens

doom ethernal game capture not working

Have you tried capturing Doom Eternal with Streamlabs OBS only to get a black screen or an error? Even if you tried Display Capture or Windows Capture, the result was just the same. Well, you’re not the only one, many gamers encountered the same problem.

And we also bet you’ve got a lot of questions about it. Keep on reading this guide if you want to learn why you can’t capture Doom Eternal.

Why can’t I capture Doom Eternal? Users can’t capture Doom Eternal on Streamlabs OBS because the game is using only Vulkan API graphics which is currently not working smoothly with the game capture tool.

Some gamers managed to get game capture to work using Display Capture. However, this method caused skipped frames.

The Solution: OBS Studio

The good news is that OBS Studio was recently updated to support Vulkan via game capture.  So, at the moment, gamers have two options available: wait for Streamlabs to add full Vulkan support or switch to OBS Studio. Keep in mind that OBS Studio version 25 is required for Vulkan capture.

Think of Vulkan as the OpenGL version of DirectX12. This technology is compatible with literally every device. As more and more major titles will embrace Vulkan, people will start to see the impressive performance and optimization potential that this technology brings.

Unfortunately for Streamlabs OBS, many users decided to switch to uninstall the program and switch to a different tool that supports Vulkan. Hopefully, full Vulkan support on Streamlabs will come soon.
