Many Xbox gamers have complained they’re forced to play Battlefield 2042 against PC players. Xbox players are few and far between in Battlefield’s lobbies. That’s why you sometimes get stuck on the “Waiting for players to join” screen.
If you’re an Xbox player and you disabled Battlefield 2042 cross-play, you need to wait for a long time before you can jump into the action. Many users also suspect that crossplay causes the annoying “Persistence data” error.
Additionally, Xbox players consider that playing against PC players is not fair. They use the keyboard-and-mouse combo which gives them the upper-hand in terms of speed and precision.
Right now, aim-assist in BF2042 doesn’t seem to be working so PC players are just dominating console players. So on Xbox you either have two choices: play and get destroyed, or queue up and wait forever.
Console only crossplay
Many Xbox users suggested that DICE and EA should add an in-game toggle for console only crossplay.
A similar option is already in place for PlayStation players. When they launch Battlefield 2042, the system asks them whether they want to opt-in to crossplay or not. Unfortunately, the same toggle is greyed out for Xbox players.
Sony doesn’t allow crossplay unless PlayStation players are allowed to turn the feature off. That’s one of the basic requirements the company has to allow a game to have crossplay.
Apparently, Microsoft doesn’t have that requirement. If you want to disable Battlefield 2042 crossplay on Xbox, you need to go through 8 menus outside of the game. Additionally, the new settings apply to all your games, not just BF 2042.
Conclusion
Xbox players don’t have an in-game option to disable crossplay in Battlefield 2042. That’s why many think crossplay is being forced upon them. Playing against PC players is not fair. Many Xbox gamers suggested DICE and EA should add an in-game toggle for console only crossplay.
