Personally, I think declaring Bloodhound to be LGBTQ+ and to be "non-binary" is a more about pandering to a segment of the player base than any true ethical position. Before anyone has a cow or throws a fit, read on. I'll explain my position.

First, there is nothing wrong with catering to a segment of the payer base to make a profit, companies do it all the time in other areas. Typically it's referred to as fan service. Where a company chooses to offer something, whether it's an weapon or or armor item, cosmetic attire, or simply game flavor in the vein of world lore.

Second, I consider this pandering to a segment of the player base because of how the character is described. As pointed out in this article, Bloodhound's identity "is a mystery wrapped in layers of rumors." This reads to me as if Bloodhound's gender was meant to be unknown, a mystery to everyone. By declaring Bloodhound an LGBTQ+ that is "non-binary" and thus neither Man nor Woman, not Male or Female since those are biological classifications and not Gender Identities, it destroys any mystery to be found in the character.

In the end, it's how the developers of Apex Legends canonize the character's Gender Identity that matters. That makes it official canon, official game world lore. However, to me, it destroys one of the key elements that made that character so intriguing in the first. The fact that no one knew, that Bloodhound was a badass character not simply because of their skills but because of their mystique.

Well, that's gone now. Sometimes less is more, and keeping Bloodhound's Gender Identity secret added a level to the character that isn't present anymore. Now Bloodhound is just a skilled character in a field of skilled characters.
